Costs kept to a minimum by economic use of materials
The HELIOtube is made of plastic films and, in its inflated state, the cylinder is mechanically very stable. The light weight construction means that the amount of material needed is very small – the overall amount of material necessary to construct and deploy one square meter of mirror surface has been reduced to just five kilograms (other, existing constructions require more than 130 kilograms due to the use of glass, steel and concrete.).
This means that the HELIOtube has considerable cost advantages.
